American Turbine American Turbine Pump

The conditions affecting the installation of a vertical turbine pump should be thoroughly understood to avoid misunderstandings or disappointments later. These notes are intended solely as an aid to satisfactory operation.

First of all, vertical turbine pumps, as the name implies, are designed to operate in a strictly vertical position. They are capable of being used at various angles with certain design considerations, but one factor remains extremely important: axial alignment must be maintained for proper operation. Any departure from the true axial alignment or forced alignment of surface equipment can cause undue stresses in the pump and can result in pump failure that is not warrantable.

Secondly, no guarantee is made against the erosive action of sand or other solids suspended in the pumped fluid. Small amounts of abrasive material may flow through the pump with little effect on the pump life or performance: however, continued pumping of such a material will eventually result in pump failure due to erosion. The only question is the length of time until failure.

Finally, we do not guarantee that any pump will withstand the corrosive properties of the pumped fluid. When potentially corrosive situations are anticipated, suggestions may be offered regarding alternate materials of construction.
